Album Club

We're on a break from Album Club, but we'll resume.

He's good.

Rick, I know you and he seem tight, and I respect your opinion, but ........ach not going to bad mouth anyone in absence, but there's a lot in his espousals give me pause.

On here and on the old place.

We're not tight and I can express some things here without badmouthing him. Ken is a sort of singularity in my dealings with people. While I mostly avoid friendships and such with people who espouse hard-right socio-political views, I'm able to see beyond that and engage with Ken on other topics. I guess through a lot of the non-political threads on the old forum, I saw some other sides of Ken. He's worked hard all his life to provide for his family, he's good to his kid, has a fierce loyalty to his old friends and he loves Springsteen. I don't mind that he'll probably see this post, because I've said many times that his politics and social-leanings are ignorant, backwards and dangerous. The other qualities I mentioned are ones I like in people and I think he represents for me the vast number of Americans who are good people at heart but duped by the Pseudo-Christian Republican Party into believing and supporting some very terrible things. I think he feels the same about my political views, though they are far more enlightened and emotionally intelligent than his. He was able to look past those political differences and enjoy some books I wrote, and I look past them, without ever overlooking them, to occasionally engage with him on mutual interests.

I think we all need to have people who put a human face on things we oppose.

@Bill Zebub This really is freakin tremendous. I've never heard any bootlegs of this, it really is blowing my mind. The band is on fire. Ronnie Wood... take a bow, his finest hour (at least as captured on an official recording). And Keith is not too far behind.

The only quibble I have is Mick's patented mid / late 70's coked out vocals arise in places, although on occasion they actually add to the loose ambience.

How this has sat in a vault for 45 years is staggering. Especially given the three sides of inferior material they chose to release on Love You Live from the same period way back when.

I'm going to go with The Crane Wife, the 2006 album from The Decemberists. The entire album seems to be on YouTube—and note that the album opens with "The Crane Wife 3," with "The Crane Wife 1&2" coming at almost the end of the record.

I'll add you into the rotation, but be sure to study up on the bylaws.

I like the surprise factor, too, but once in a while you gotta put a precious pick on claim.

Not to beat my own drum or toot my own horn, but I'm really intrigued what you might think (good or bad) about my selection East by Cold Chisel. I have a feeling it's a band you'd enjoy, but I could be completely wrong.
