Just a little Jesse news for you, last night he had to play the whole evening as Lu and the band were unwelll and tested positive for covid, think the tour has now been suspended for two weeks.
Jese is currently supporting Lucinda in the latest leg of her extensive tour, they played Saxapahaw last night, it is is North Carolina (I had to look it up as well). Other good news is that Doug Pettibone is back playing with her band, hope he makes it across here in January with them.
I will indeed, got front row seats for that one, seen her at The Royal Concert Hall once before it is a venue I like. She seems to be making steady ptogress from the stroke she suffered late last year, at first she was coming on stage with support and performed sitting down, but now she seems to be able to perform standing up most of the time, she is a real trooper.
I listen to JM off and on, after picking up on him thru the Bruce connection, with a handful of his records in the collection. Got to agree with the rat man that live he’s a treat. Puts on a great show irrespective of whether it’s a packed house or 3 blokes and a dog. Deserves to be more widely known and appreciated. Record I go back to most often is the relatively recent Sunset Kids, though that’s no doubt because of the Lu Williams involvement.
Having some time away from this album, from Malin, I've been reminded just how good he is. It's never been anything I thought he lacked that kept him from being a regular listen - it's more that my list of those I obsess over is already pretty well established, and crowded. New artists do make it on to that list, but it's not something that happens frequently.
This is a great record and it reminds me of driving around Jersey for what ended up being the last time.
I haven't listened to this album, or any Jesse Malin, for a while. When it came out, I played it a lot and listened to his other stuff, too. I like him very much - he's definitely on the short list of younger artist who make music I really like, but he never really grabbed me to the point that I make frequent deep dives into his catalog.
Listening to this three times after years gone by, I'm inclined to update my Malin discography and give him a weekend.
Never heard this song before, I didn't know it existed...
Almost crashed my car when I heard Bruce...
And none of you guys said anything.... After all these years and numerous threads about covers and duets and collaborations, here we are in April 2022 and I have discovered an unfamiliar Bruce song.... 😊
Apologies to Jesse Malin for not talking about his music...
I had a similar experience to @Bosstralian of thinking 'I know that voice'!
I have listened a couple of times now to the whole album and have enjoyed it. However, I am not sure there is anything special enough about it to make me pick it out again. My favourite by a long way is Broken Radio and I am hoping this isn't just because of the co-singer! The other two I like enough to listen to again are Aftermath and NY Nights.
There is something familiar about Little Star, but I can't put my finger on it...
So I've heard and read about Jesse Malin over the journey, but never listened to anything by him (except, I think, a great cover of Hungry Heart on maybe some Uncut magazine bonus CD?). I'm really enjoying this.
Put it on for the first time while going for a walk at lunchtime today. Enjoyed the first three songs (good walking music BTW). Then came the slower fourth track and suddenly, out of nowhere and completely unexpectedly (as I had done zero research prior) a very familiar voice appeared. When I checked the track name I saw it was called Broken Radio and then the fog in the recesses of my mind started to clear. I now remembered reading about the collaboration at the time, but I either never heard it back then (streaming and You Tube weren't so omnipresent then) or if I did it never really registered with me. TBH, on first listen here it didn't really grab me either but I'm liking it more second time round so expect that to grow with more listens.
So about one and a half listens in...like I said, enjoyed the first three songs a lot. Happy Ever After was stuck in my head after lunchtime so I guess that's a goodie, although I do sometimes find something that grabs me so quickly wears thinner equally as quick as opposed to more 'grower' type songs. I knew there was something else in the middle of the album I really liked too but couldn't recall the title, on second listen it was Black Haired Girl. And Lucinda is catchy too.

I got the email about that, only available (as far as I can tell) for pre-order in the States thus far, which comes with dumb-ass postage costs.
Reissue on pink vinyl incoming.

Good pick @MagicRatAFC
Well, my thoughts on my pick.
This was my first Jessie album, bought on a whim soon after release (in Fopp in Glasgow as I recall) due to our man's involvement.
I'm now a Malin completist.
I loved it straight off.
I think it's a relationship themed (perhaps a break up?) album, as he seems to dwell on past relationships.
I think it's significant that this was released the year prior to him turning 40, but that's my cod psychology in play.
Broken Radio is a song for his mother, I think it's lovely, but my personal fav is New York Nights.
It triggered (and triggers) some nice personal memories for me.
My theory is that this is a love song to New York City.
I love the cover of the Mats' Bastards of young, Aftermath is an amazing album closer, I would classify that as a break up song fairly confidently.
Happy ever after is an update of Since you're in love from the previous record The Heat, lending credence to my "retrospective/turning 40" theory.
Having said all that, as much as I love this record, and the rest of his output, it's live that Jesse does it best.
He's quite simply a musician who has paid his dues.
Consumate front man, raconteur, social commentator, stand up comic......he's awesome live.
See him if you can.

@Louisa I mentioned the fact that our boy made an appearance in my post on the album club thread.
I had the same experience as @whispered secret and @Bosstralian

Listening to Broken Radio again and I am going to have to confess that it's that voice which gets me - every time!

Thanks @MagicRatAFC.
This record came out the last year I was living in Jersey. It got a lot of play all over the central and north state in my old Ford Probe.
Here's a YouTube link to the album, hopefully there's no regional issues.
As Rick says it will be on every streaming platform.
I was going to look for that later, I posted when I woke up and was waiting for my lateral flow result (single line thankfully).
