As in so many things I seem to work backwards, having started with Wilco and dipped into UT thru the anthology release. Quick visit to the man-cave and I’ve uncovered a No Depression demo LP and a live set from 1994, both released thru Record Store Day if I remember right.
Feel a deep dive into UT coming on, followed by a detour into Son Volt. Any suggestions as to where to start with the latter?
Have to say I love these conversations. Only problem is they tend to throw up so many leads & pointers I just don’t have the listening time to follow them all up. Still, keep ‘em coming.
@Scott Peterson Its not that unusual for me to need a bit of ‘soak time’ before a record or band gets embedded.
I fell in to Wilco thru the 1st Billy Bragg Guthrie collaboration record, then started hopping around their back-catalogue. Some worked from the off, others need a bit of patience.
Probably my most embarrassing example of not getting it from the off is The Gaslight Anthem. Dismissed as noisy punks leaning too obviously on our man was the conclusion, until I started listening to Fallons solo records and went back.
Thanks Scott .... The acoustic one is quite emotional .... Not sure i like either as much as the Duet with Jay though ....That REALLY showed off his voice !!!!
Lol ..... So much music so little time .....And as i get older things start slipping away ..... I mean i was a total music geek ....Now i notice more and more when a song comes on MY ipod my reaction is ...What the f*#k is this lol ...
But you bringing up YFH really sent me down the rabbit hole which is always fun !
Thanks Scott .... Seems like I Am Trying To Break Your Heart is a VERY hard to find documentary ....But i was motivated to drag some CD's upstairs and add quite a bit of Wilco to the ipod. And also reserve a copy of No Depression from the library which i am excited to hear. And a non sequitur ....No Depression is Album only digitally which is quite rare....

If you haven't heard Uncle Tupelo's Anodyne LP, I cannot recommend it highly enough; it may be my favorite album from not only Uncle Tupelo, but also Son Volt and Wilco.
Interesting conversation.

I have exactly one song from YHF on my ipod ..... I was a Summerteeth guy ..... I think they fired the keyboard guy after that album ?
