So, THS are one of my favourite bands.
As they move on in years they've, collectively, given up conventional touring (happily, Craig Finn is content to hit the road) eschewing them in favour not "Weekenders", multiple shows over a single weekend in a single city with peripheral events attached.
London in March seems to have developed into a tradition, which I hope to attend in the future.
This year, it is " virtual" being live streamed from the Brooklyn Bowl, crucially at UK friendly times.
Last night's and tonight's shows are at 8.00p.m. last night's was awesome, hopefully tonight's is at the same level.
I'm passing on the soundcheck, happening as we speak, but subscribed to both shows.
A great watch, but by the cringe it isn't half making me Jones for a live gig.
Not directly related to The Hold Steady Weekender, but there was an article in today's Observer about the return (hopefully) of live music and this quote struck me, it's from Christine and The Queens, of whom I have never heard!
'I hope people miss live music as much as performers do. I would feel quite emotional stepping back on a stage, because it’s even more precious now that we lost it. Forgive me in advance if I snap and do stupid things, which might happen. When gigs start again, there are two options. Either people are discouraged by real life, or it’s a total burst of hedonism, and live shows will be happening in insane conditions of people wanting to touch and be touched. I’m not saying it would be orgiastic, but it could be at least a bit insane, in a good way.'
So, it seems post gig last night, fuelled by high emotion, red wine and Caesar Augustus lager/IPA hybrid, I went on a bit of a merch buying frenzy.
I wasn't that drunk and remembered doing it, but it had slipped my mind until I opened my emails this morning.
Next to Bruce apparel, my largest T shirt collection is THS jobs.......so I don't really need anymore.
Oops.
Oh yes.
If I'm alive......and healthy, Camden 2022 I'm there front and centre.....all weekend.
