I read the book ages ago.
Just watched episode 1 (of 2).
They've messed with the timelines of the book, but that's OK.
I'm confident in saying, even halfway in, this is Martin Compston's finest hour. This is Tony Curran's finest hour. This is Ashley Jensen's finest hour.
Watch this, read the book, tough watch, tough read, but it......says so much about so many things.
Mag-fucking-nificant.
A harrowing watch at times, which just shows how good the actors were, they were all great but I thought Ashley Jensen was superb, especially in the scenes when she did not have any dialogue, her actions and face just captured what she was going through, and the typically "Scottish" moments were great also,
@Jerseyfornia I'm confident you'll enjoy it, I loved it and I don't recall too much Scottish vernacular in the book, so it shouldn't lose anything in translation.
Downloaded and ready to watch, will do so soon as time allows.
Not read the book (Mr J has) but the TV show was terrific - thought provoking, sad, joyous - just wonderful. Agree with you about their finest hours - superb acting throughout.
Getting the book on your recommendation.
