I've just watched the first episode and really enjoyed it. I have great (new?) hopes for this after being relatively disappointed with The Book Of Boba Fett.
Without giving anything away hopefully, about a third of the way through Episode 1 the action shifts from Tatooine to another location, and I sheepishly admit to getting Star Wars nerd goosebumps when I realised what was up. And this part of the story did not disappoint... so, so perfect. I was grinning like a loon.
The Mandalorian has been good to very good over two seasons, but for me this was something else... the best delving into that whole Jedi / Force mythology part of Star Wars since possibly the original trilogy. Also, a lot of 'train spotting' type fan service stuff which in some of the other Disney produced oeuvre seems tokenistic or done just for the sake of it, whereas here it was much more organically tied to the story itself. Tremendous stuff.
I thought the entire series was a masterstroke. I hope they decide to do a second season with young Luke.
So. What did we all think of the finale?
Bosstralian watched the finale, let us go to the video for the reaction at the end of the game...
This series really is the business. I stand and applaud all concerned.
I thought the episode was the single best hour of Star Wars in the last 40 years.
Outstanding.
Not sure what I thought about the latest episode.
There was something weirdly anti climatic about the coming together, but given it's episode 3, I guess that was the point. As was the build up... Darth is still learning what he is capable as a practitioner of the Dark Side, Obi Wan is needing to re-engage with the Force. Neither character is the absolute they would become later.
This series I think will not only stand up to repeat viewing but almost demands it, in a way I'm not sure Boba Fett or even Mandalorian have. For example, I only found out via a FB post that I'd missed the clever point that the homeless person Kenobi gave money too was played by Temura Morrison I.e. Jango Fett I.e. all the cloned troopers I.e. Boba Fett.
I'm tempted to start rewatching already, this is a wonderful multi layered piece of Star Wars story telling so far.
Good points.
Regardless of anything else, little Leia was fantastic. She evoked Carrie Fisher's portrayal of the Princess perfectly.
She was perfect and brilliant.
II am a little worried about the possibility of conflicts with established canon, but it's too early to say that won't be resolved.
I enjoyed the first two episodes quite a bit.
