Sir Alex Ferguson, the greatest manager ever, 80 years old today.
For me, what makes Fergie the best ever was that he dominated in different eras.
Shankley, Paisley, Stein, Clough managed in a certain way in a certain era......as did Fergie at the outset.
He then adapted to the "Mega-star" era and managed the egos appropriately.
Would the others I mentioned have adapted in the same way?
Probably, they were men of incredible intelligence.
But they never had the opportunity.
Happy Birthday.
Geatest manager ever? Well, may I just mention Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley?
I suppose it depends where you sit on the Liverpool/Manchester divide!! I like and admire both teams, so am happy to go with any of those three.
Happy Birthday Sir Alex, and hope you have many, many more.
Thanks for the (many) memories.
It's his birthday today also?
Is he ever allowed to be called Gaffer? 😉
Absolutely not!
I thought for a minute you were talking about my better half!
I would wish Sir Alex a happy day too.
