Probably deserves a thread of its own, but I will just add it to last year`s thread.
Whispered Secret did you watch the tennis last night, the girl done really good, in a fantastic match Tim Henman had it spot on when he said that neither girl took a backward step, and although the score might not suggest it the match was very close. Lets hope she gets well looked after and can stay fit and healthy for years to come.
@whispered secret You should have seen the comments on the BBC website after the match. Hundreds of xenophobic remarks about Chinese and Romanians. I haven't checked again but hopefully BBC removed them. As an aside, the comments on the DAily Mail about Bruce yesterday weren't much better. Lots of angry sick people it seems.
I'm thrilled Emma won, but I also just want to celebrate two young women, both of mixed heritage, being so utterly brilliant.
My worry for Emma (sad to say) is that say she gets knocked out in first round of Wimbledon she will be treated to the abuse suffered by our three young footballers.
It appears that Margaret was suffering from post-partum depression. Instead of medical treatment (or as well as) she became involved with religion ... her particular faith bringing her to her views which she still holds. Did she have these views previously? Did she become and is still affected by her situation back then? Is she just bad-spirited and mean?
Whatever the reason, I hope people can be understanding and, unlike Margaret, try to refrain from being judgmental. In general, not this Board in particular.
Should the arena have a name-change? If the majority think so then yes. Personally ... yes. It's a name on a building - she still holds the record because she was darned good. They can't take that away from her. I hope.
Andy backing calls by Navratilova and McEnroe for the Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne to re re-named. Well done Andy, always on the right side of history.
I wish I had managed to stay awake until the end. I caved in after three and a half sets, even though it was enthralling tennis. Zverev must be so disappointed to let it slip, but well done Thiem.
At least the French will be played in our time zone!
She was, although I personally always preferred Billie Jean. I just think that Serena has been the most phenomenal player and deserves this record, which clearly matters to her.
If Zverev and Coric and examples of the new guard, they need to up their game. Very disappointing match full of errors, at least until I gave up and went to made after two and a half sets. Maybe the pressure of knowing ine of the Big 4 are still in is getting to them.
Really hope Serena can reach her elusive goal, if only to replace Margaret Court in the record books.
@riverdude4 Agree, he is the most graceful player to watch, but I thought he was patronising when he beat Andy at Wimbledon. Nobody puts Andy in the corner...
He'd already hit a ball into the ad boards so this was a second incident. Can't say I'm disappointed he's out. Great player no doubt but not easy to like.
I wonder, well I doubt, if the Express sees the irony of side by side headlines?

I agree.
Court was a great player, nobody would dispute that, but her disgusting homophobia is abhorrent and is an embarrassment for the sport.

I gave up watching when Thiem went a break down in the third. Big mistake.

I enjoyed the final yesterday. Full of admiration for Osaka, another player who is inspirational on and off the court.
Whatever her views - Margaret Court was a great player. She earned her place.
Really disappointed to see Serena was knocked out overnight. She so deserves this record.
Thiem must be hot favourite now.
Margaret Court should be struck from the record books.

Had no idea it had got this nasty

I have never seen tennis outside of a fumbled on final take up so much time in the news
Hope it’s a Thiem/Zverev final. They’ve been the two who have looked most likely to break the Novak, Rafa, Roger monopoly, for a long time now.
It looked fairly innocuous, He didn't appear to hit the ball in anger, but it sounds as if he had previously hit a ball in anger.
He is certainly not easy to like, especially when he has been playing in the same era as Federer, who everyone in the world seems to love (except me!)
He'd already hit a ball into the ad boards so this was a second incident. Can't say I'm disappointed he's out. Great player no doubt but not easy to like.
Heard about this on the news, haven't seen it yet. What happened, he launched a ball in temper and it hit a line judge on the throat?
Just watched the Djokovic incident, although I can't stand the bloke, it did look very harsh.
