Hi everyone. Barring any delay we're set to get Archive #58 on Friday, so what do you think it will be and what do you want it to be?
Three shows that immediately come to my mind are August 20th, 1981, June 21st, 2012, and October 27th, 2002. How about you?
And if anybody happens to enjoy reading about these releases, I've heard these reviews aren't completely awful: https://cantfindtickets.wordpress.com/category/live-downloads-archive-series-reviews/ (At least I waited 2 hours 😁).
Well, we are quiet in this space. I guess everyone's more involved in the tour news and trying to score tickets (if in Europe).
This activity may still potentially cause a delay, I suppose. The countdown is on so I guess an announcement of any delay will be soon.
Let's assume not... I'm going either Darkness tour, or at the polar opposite a D&D show. If Darkness, I'm going Passiac 3. If D&D... who knows, they are presumably all recorded. But I'd be hoping for something with some tour debuts given the eclectic nature of those set lists.
@Mario Brega how did you get to expect Sheffield 1988... you haven't been tapped to write a review again, have you?
Elsewhere, (well, Oily Waterbody), someone has hinted at a European show pre Reunion. Which fits in with Mario's expectation.
If it is TOL, I'll go through the usual process. 'Do I really need another show with the same songs in largely the same order?' I might leave it a day, read the positive reviews, decide to splurge. Next is 'Wow, the nuances in Tunnel, the differences in Seeds, this BITUSA outro solo is off the fuckin charts'. Infact, so far I have reasonably clear favourite shows from each tour based on personal set list tastes. TOL is much harder, as the nuances are in the performances, and in spite of (or because of?) a tightly almost scripted set list, the nuances are more pronounced than almost any other tour. At least with the releases so far. Stockholm 88 is in my top 5 all time Archive releases... is there another European show which, despite set list similarities, actually tops it due to performance nuances?
Speaking of which, Brucebase states that Sheffield night 2 is the first time Spare Parts was played in the second set on the tour. Yet their posted setlist for Night 1 also has it in the second set?!?
Expecting Sheffield 1988 next week, but man I was listening to the newest None But The Brave podcast episode yesterday and I'd love some Magic.
I'll take it. I would have preferred Baltimore, but I am looking forward to downloading it.
also.....
Putin go fuck yourself.
Cleveland 2009 is today's release according to Jimmy Rotolo.
Yeah, if they had East Berlin, now would be the time.
That would be a poignant release, especially if Bruce donated his profit to aid Ukraine.
Well, I guess world events are (quite rightly) overshadowing any thought of the next Archive show which is shortly due (assuming normal First Friday transmission).
Music can be a balm... what balm may Mr Springsteen and Nugs bestow on us in the coming hours?
Well, looks like I was right and then wrong.
Seems all quiet on the rumour front, nothing at all on either BTX or elsewhere from any of those sneaky folks who sometimes get a sniff of what's coming.
That makes me nervous, complete radio silence brings the old 'delay twitter post' worries into play.
Well, presumably we are only days away from another entry in the Archive series.
After the ridiculous run of absolute A grade E Street crackers (both classic era and reunion) that the last few months have provided, I wouldn't be surprised if the series takes a figurative deep breath and wipe of the brow this month to bring us something off E Street.
A GOTJ show is my odds on guess, with Seeger Sessions only slightly behind.
March could see a return to E Street but circa 2009. At which point all the contrarians in the fan base will be whining and complaining how the series is dead, having somehow forgotten the amazing late 2021 / Jan 2022 run of releases.
I'm ready for another Seeger tour show.
I was listening to the New Orleans Jazz Festival release today and I do have one criticism of Bruce. I think it was overly-sensitive to the point of being a chickenshit move that he dropped the word black from the "and what happened to your poor folks" line in front of an audience that probably had the highest percentage of black people he's ever played to. For me, it's the line that draws clear the way racism has effected everything from infrastructure to disaster relief in this country.
Always stick to your guns, if you strapped them on for justice.
I'm hearing inklings that it's one of the Anaheim shows from 2000.
Hopefully Night Two!
It's amazing to think we get these so often.
I promise not to moan about delays as well.
With a new release this morning and me still not worn out on the last one, remind me not to moan about the next delay.
Archive Series back in action tomorrow, so soon after December 23rd!
Hoping for something from 2009, honestly. It's been a while.
Putting the finishing touches on this year's Archive Top 10 (until I'm likely thrown back to step 1 on Friday) and out of this 66 song playlist I've got, a great joy is playing a song I initially think "does this really need to be in here?" about, and remembering why I had it down as a maybe in the first place.
P.S. that song is "Land of Hope and Dreams" from June 27th, 2000, but I'm not telling if it'll be in the blog or not 😉
Work has officially started on my New Year's Day possibilities for 2022 (and the Series' Top 10 songs of 2021) blog post. I've got my top 10 just about set, before the potential Christmas bonus makes me start from scratch, and I'm personally happy with the shows I've selected as shouts for the New Year. You lot know I don't like to praise my own work, regardless of how much I share it, but I've gotta say I'm very happy with how it's going, and I'm really looking forward to January 1st so you can all have a chance to check it out 🙂
I am hoping for a nice surprise on Christmas.
I do have to admit, the only things I ever look forward to are the classic shows 80/81 or 84/85. I might be excited for a another Magic or D and D show. Maybe a Joad. But I am in general bored with the Reunion era to be honest.
What show or shows are you still holding out hope for?
I need these two.
