Hopefully Trump loses the election. If this ad is of any help in making Trump lose, that's good. If sucessful, this ad can save many lives. Real people are hurt by the politics of Trump. That's the real problem.
The farmer on the verge of crying was interviewed by the video's producer. He was told his segment would appear in the finished production, that it would be part of the piece and he agreed to it. As was everyone who was interviewed for the piece. The producers must get their approval, in writing with their signatures in fact. It's the law in the U.S.
When Springsteen filmed the video for "Girls in their Summer Clothes", was he exploiting women's sexuality for showing some of them posing or walking around the beach boardwalk clad in attractive summer attire? Sir, please.
Those images‘ only function in the video is to cause an emotional impact. It’s not wrong to want to cause an emotional impact, but there is absolutely nothing else that they add.
I mean...the dramatic entrance of the drums on "Backstreets" is meant to cause an emotional impact. Same with the breakdown and then count in out of said breakdown in "Born to Run." The hollered "I'm gonna tear it down and throw it away!" at the climax of "The Price You Pay." The repeated refrain of "41 shots," and the way it's passed from band member to band member. And obviously there are literally hundreds, maybe thousands of other examples we could use from just Bruce's catalog (since there are so many elements/moments per song).
Real people are shown suffering from the Trump presidency. They wanted their own suffering to be shown because they want rid of the man who is responsible for their suffering.
TJ, I totally agree with you conceptually, but in the current, unprecedented situation in the U.S. ( no matter how that situation arose) I think, here and now, the ends DO justify the means.
If it wasn’t real, it wouldn’t be exploitative. It exploits people’s pain for political advantage. The only reason they’ve included those images is to maximise emotional impact.
@MagicRatAFC I certainly understand why one would think this is necessary. But the ends don’t justify the means. The means define you just as much as, if not more than, the ends.
I don’t like the way those people’s misfortunes are being used for political gain and certainly wouldn’t vote for anyone who thinks it’s ok to do this.
It‘s a fine line, of course. But this just seems to be completely gratuitous.
I'm following the U.S. election stuff more on one of the other forums, but in all honesty, seeing the way that absolute disease of a man is behaving, the fact that this is even remotely still a contest is mind boggling.

I wonder if Bruce this horribly exploitative ad before he authorised the song to be used.

Keep at it my American friends, get it done and get this disgrace of a human thrown into the dustbin of life where he belongs.
PA is a " battleground state"? Presumably?
