This post was inspired by a thread on BTX discussing Prove It with the 78 intro. It started as a conversation about how and where the intro originally came from back in 1978. More pertinently to this thread, it evolved into a discussion about which post 2012 Prove It 78 (which is when it was revived) is the best.
Someone suggested Adelaide 2014, and I thought 'Hey, I waz dere'...
Which inspired this thread. A home for videos of songs from shows you were actually at, maybe with a little story about your memories. Hell, if it's actually your own video, even better, but anything floating around in the ether is welcome.
So, I'll start with a vid (not mine) of said Prove It. My memory of it was that, yes, it was vastly better and more focussed than the other time I heard it in person (Melbourne 2013). But my main abiding reaction to it is 'poor @Daisey Jeep '... poor girl is still hunting a 78 Prove It, and here's myself not that fussed about it either way having seen it twice in my mere six shows.
for the record i think as excitting and raw as it was in 78 and i mean winterland primarly, i think its improved this time around
i love both, and as much as i love NIls i like 78 because the night the best
your a lucky bastard cousin
i missed it by one tour date in Canada
then i got prove it with no bloody intro in Auckland summer 2017
im afarid as much as i love linyc i just dont see the point of prove it with no intro
i think i cried (at least on the inside till i got back to the hotel)
i vividly rememebr waking up2012 and reading on backstreets news when the 78 intro was revivied
i woke the neighbourhod up with my excitment
latter than tour when Bruce came to Aussie (and not NZ) i think he played it in Sydney
possibky a show i may have been at if i could have afforded it
So here .... is the encore from the second favorite Bruce show i ever attended after New Years Eve 1980.......all i ever ask for is some rock and roll covers in the encore .....Something that after the TOL tour became a much rarer occurrence
Kind of a long story ......But Bruce was playing Saturday and Sunday at MSG in 2009...I had tickets to the Saturday show ...and on what i recall was Monday of that week it was announced that Saturday he would be playing WIESS in its entirety and Sunday The River. I was quite crestfallen as i would be missing my all time favorite Bruce album by one night ....
Thank Goodness i was rescued by reasonable tickets from Stub Hub and treated to this fine encore.
My main memory ...Other than risking life and limb dancing like a fool to Seven Nights ...was my wife asking me if i saw the sign ..... When i saw Sweet Soul Music i just could not believe it.... A thrilling Holy Shit moment for me.....
And I Waz Dere 😀
@SteveInJoburg This is still one of my favourite Bruce covers / videos. I think, from memory, you saw all the shows in 2014? I remember your passionate reviews / write ups on GL for those shows stood proud amongst some of the best I ever read on that forum.
Only seen Bruce 3 times, and I got to see Prove It '78 at the second of those, Cape Town N2. Listening to it now, it's not a patch on the actual 78 versions, of course, but it was still pretty damn cool at the time.
BA I'm kinda with you.
While I like the 78 Prove it intro as a wee curio, compared to, say, Nils' Because the Night guitar lead, it doesn't particularly raise my heart rate.
I'd need to even check back setlists to confirm the shows at which I've seen it.
Ok, I lied, but this is it for now.
So, first time ever in Adelaide. What do you open with when faced with an audience that, theoretically, has never seen you live before but has been told (via advertising and word of mouth) to expect one of the great rock shows they will see? Badlands? BITUSA? No, it's hot and summer, so let's go for a 1950's Eddie Cochran cover.
Then, at 3.30 or so in this clip, Bruce is pointing at a sign draped behind the stage. From memory, it said 'Detroit Medley for Clarence and Danny'. Check out Stevie at around 3.35, to me he clearly says something to the effect of 'what, right now?' after Bruce has called it out. Crazy arse two pack opener, especially for a virgin Bruce crowd. I was already losing my mind, of course.
And last (so that I don't flood my own thread narcissticaly) the funniest thing I've ever seen at a concert, full stop.
So two of my shows were in part preserved for posterity by Bruce's official channel. There's this, and then also Heatwave from Night 2.
