Ok, so I've built a Bruce time travelling DeLorean. Thank you Dr Emmett Brown for your proprietary intellectual property.
(Actually, I've done nothing of the sort, I'm just seeing if Fox News would report someone has created a Bruce time machine).
Nevertheless, imagine if one of us did create a Bruce time machine? Where (or, more precisely, when) would you go?
For me, number one is a no brainer. LA 1981, straight to the Veterans show. For me, the ultimate moment as a Bruce fan.
After that, some really weird and funny thoughts came into my head. Perhaps Makers Mark and 25 years of marriage (plus children) is messing with my cognitive functionality. But my immediate second thought was going to New York on about 5th November 2009, enjoying some sightseeing for two days, before hitting the Garden for the full album WIESS and River double.
Then, in a desperate search to find what I'm missing, landing in St Louis 2008 for that show to try and understand what the hell was in the air that night which never translated to a recording I still find to be 'meh, it's OK, but what's the big deal?' Sonething is seriously missing between the reputation of that show and how it sounds on tape, and I need to find out what the hell it is. Hopefully I don't get struck by lightning trying...
@Bosstralian I'd probably join you in going to St Louis 2008, but I'd stop off at every preceding tour gig first. I'm certain it was a time and place moment and you had to experience what they'd been playing to fully appreciating what they were playing on that night.
Kinda like watching Citizen Kane now I guess. It's brilliant for sure, but imagine seeing that in comparison to everything else they were making at the time?!
I'd go to the barn.
I think my first stop would be a future show that no one has seen yet so I can report back how great the Letter To You songs are in concert.
For me ..... Who is an old time rock and roll freak .....St Louis contained as many of those old classic E Street Covers as maybe any show in the reunion Era .....Which is why i was so jealous of that show.
As for your premise .....I guess i would like to go back to 12-31-80 to revisit my much younger self.
I would like to go to a '78 show that opened with a classic oldie into Badlands ( Summertime Blues, Rave On, Good Rockin' Tonight , High School Confidential ) ....
And i would join you for the 2009 River show which disqualifying my first show which i can't sanely judge is my 2nd favorite of the shows i have attended.
