I looked and looked but did not find a thread like this in the circuit?
I've just listened to my CD copy of Western Stars (yes, it is still absolutely magnificent) and then my CD of Letter To You straight afterwards.
There are much, much worse ways to spend a little under an hour and a half folks.
Currently playing "Janey Needs a Shooter" a heart breaking piece of song writing, that was unearthed and rerecorded with the muscular E Street band. To my mind, it is a precurser to so much in his canon. Point Blank comes to mind, as does the female lead in Racing in the Street. Hemmed in and lonely, he sees her with all the others, knowing how he can be there for her. It's a love unrequited. unreturned. She's lost in Jackson's Cage. One of the features of his best work is the repeating of lines over and over in his obsession, or the person singing the song. This was used to perfection in Backstreets. I will also say this one is a cousin to that as well. He repeats it as so he can let it go, or maybe work it out. These words remind me of times where I felt the same way....
Everybody is waiting for someone who isn't coming back. Blind faith will get you killed. Indeed.
