I'm less bad for this than I used to be, but how many of us are prone to "impulse buying" albums only to find they're complete pants?
When I was younger, jeez I filled my collection with some shite.
Reason this has come to light again is, I downloaded Royal Green, a solo project by Bryan Devendorf of The National. It's good, really good in parts.
Emboldened by this, I purchased another album that is a side project of his LNZNDRF.
It's in the post, but a quick Spotify listen leads me to believe this .........may not be wholly to my taste, charitably speaking.
Anyone else fallen victim to this sort of impulse purchase?
I have a lot of complete shit in my collection and sometimes I even listen to it.
I've even been guilty of buying the same CD twice having forgotten I had it
Guilty as charged, yer honour.
Think we’ve all done this at some point. My problem is I never moved them on. When I ripped my CDs a couple of years ago I was alarmed to turn up 20+ duplicates which I gave away. Worth buttons 2nd hand. On the other hand I bought Mary Margaret O’Hara‘s ‘Miss America‘ LP entirely on impulse back in the day and was completely blown away, so it cuts both ways tbf.
Over decades, I've amassed a huge CD collection. Now CDs are virtually worthless, even some charity shops don't want them. Sad really.
On topic though, I've bought quite a few clunkers probably based on hearing one song by the artist. I've even been guilty of buying the same CD twice having forgotten I had it or simply misplaced the original, only for it to turn up later on.😮
This reminds me of the old days. Before your time, many of you. The only way to discover something new was to go to a record store - if you had one near you.
You took as much time as you had to look through new arrivals. You looked up all your favorite artists to see if they had published anything new. If you were real lucky, the store personnel would play some new album that caught your fancy.
Other than that, you went away with as many new albums as you could afford and hoped there weren't too many duds among them.
Yes, I remember these times well. I'm glad things are much less complicated now.
I enjoy spotify for finding new things. So many good things are out there now.
