@Jerseyfornia you might be the resident Bob Seger expert.
So, I always took The Beatles 'Back in USSR' to be an affectionate tribute / satire on Chuck Berry's 'Back In The USA'.
Is Bob Seger's 'Katmandu' a similar tribute to both those songs? I always thought so due to the common denominator of Chuck Berry styled musical arrangement, but the more I listen to the Bob Seger back catalogue the more this seems a lyrical outlier. I myself can only hear it as a tribute / satire of the earlier tribute / satire done by the Veatles.
Am I missing some thing?
While I've not heard or read a specific comment from Seger about Katmandu, it does fit into a category of his songs derived straight from Chuck Berry, and based on comments he's made about another song, you're probably at least half right. At a show I saw, he introduced Get Out Of Denver as a tribute to Chuck Berry via the Beach Boys.
