The Waltons, Little House on the Prairie, The Monkees, Cheers, Mash, Frasier, Ben Hall, War and Peace (70's), Spooks, Line of Duty, To name but a few. All favourites at the time. Band of Brothers and The Pacific were watched relatively recently - marvellous!
Seinfeld is, for me, by far, the best comedy series ever. Bojack Horseman the best animated serie. Twilight Zone (the original one) the best sci-fi. Show Me a Hero is probably my favourite short series.
I am a huge Star Trek fan and my favourite of all the series is Deep Space Nine. The long story arc, all the wonderful character actors and the darker themes.
Another one I enjoyed around the same time as Sopranos was Six Feet Under. I would need to revisit this to see if it has stood the test of time. A series I loved way back when was When The Boat Comes In, but I tried watching it a few years ago and it felt terribly dated.
Agree The Bridge / The Killing and Borgen all excellent. I haven't seen The Bureau or The Adulterer. Are they still around on netflix or similar? We may need more viewing choices over the coming months.
The Bureau seasons 1 & 2 " are on Amazon Prime. Seasons 3-5 are on Sundance Via Amazon Prime. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It's a must watch.
The Adulterer is essentially a Dutch type of Sopranos show. The original title Overspel means betrayal and is far more apt. I think you'd really like it. Although current, it has a great 60s soundtrack (you'll see why). It's on All 4 - 3 seasons complete.
One that I haven't seen mentioned yet is my personal favourite, The West Wing.
I'm not a huge TV watcher and I tend to rewatch more than I discover, but these are my five all-times in no particular order.
Battlestar Galactica (reboot)
The Sopranos
Breaking Bad
M*A*S*H*
The Twilight Zone (do anthology series count)
I would have included The Walking Dead if it hadn't lost its way for so long and Game Of Thrones if they hadn't fucked off the last season.
I really want to slip The Honeymooners in there somewhere.
Breaking Bad. Next question?
Going old school "A very British coup" just awesome. "GBH" was similarly great. And "Father Ted".......
