That's the word on the street from the typically reliable sources. None But the Brave etc.
I don't know if this is what I want personally, but I imagine I'll probably really enjoy it. I just hope there's as much if not more regular soul songs as there is alleged Christmas tracks.
He should cover 'You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman' without altering a lyric... it would be worth it for the Fox News meltdown alone...
This has me totally jazzed, he's always been a great soul singer and I freaking love when he deviates off course! This almost sounds like the perfect artistic move to me so I best start SAVIN' UP.
Strange. This seems like a ship that sailed in the early 90's, when The Commitments were big. Australian artist Jimmy Barnes had one of his biggest hit albums at that time also with Soul Deep, a collection of soul covers. So been there, done that for me.
But let's wait and see. If it includes my all time favourite soul style number in Sam Cooke's Bring It On Home To Me, I'm in.
He's a fool if the liner notes don't read "produced by Bruce Springsteen and Steve Van Zandt."
This seems a tad random.
We'll see what comes to pass.
Interesting, soul being my favourite genre and Bruce being my favourite everything, I think I might like this! I'd rather he did something new of course.
Is this necessary? It seems like a late-career kind of move that satisfies a contractual requirement and pleases the artist. A double album seems even frivolous. Does Bruce perform some amazing soul covers? Yes. usually onstage with the E Street Band, so why not a band project? I expect it will be a decent record, but if he chooses to do songs he's made staples of his live shows, those studio tracks can only pale by comparison. Save these recordings for after he's no longer with us and give us the damned Nebraska and USA sets, ten new songs. If he needs to do something different, do something a little more daring, like Western Stars was, not soul covers he's already proven himself to be masterful at.
I honestly believe our hero has lost it. The money, the famous friends, drifting too far from the shore...
I mean...I don't know. I guess I don't see how this is substantively different — at this point, at least — from The Seeger Sessions. Or Good As I Been to You/World Gone Wrong, from Bob Dylan, or Paul McCartney's Run Devil Run, or Eric Clapton's From the Cradle. Because:
Since Day 1, I’ve said that Bruce is the greatest cover artist ever.
That's a quote. I have not said that, nor do I believe it...but I do believe he's one of the very greatest cover artists ever. And if he really puts his all into these covers? They could be not only revelatory, it might be a neat introduction to some soul classics, and give some of those artists a nice little financial windfall.
I honestly believe our hero has lost it. The money, the famous friends, drifting too far from the shore...
As long as it doesn’t get in the way of the real deal I’ll go with it. If a couple of the covers find their way into the 2023 sets fine.
So..... Barn 2 😁 He will continue to do fascinating stuff for a few wealthy and hand-picked people, and we get the standard E Street extravaganza at the dynamic prices?
This fella has the right idea, whoever he is.
Also...
I chose to live in this isolated Bruce world... I only read what gets posted here, so yeah, I'm in the dark.. Sounds interesting, the choice of covers is what I'm thinking about now.... He's brilliant working on such projects. Something grabs him, and off we go.... Another Bruce dimension... I don't quite understand which live shows are supposed to be dedicated to the new release?
