At least I think this is new! I have just read a review in Mojo for 'Deliver Me From Nowhere' by Warren Zanes, which is billed as "the inside story of Bruce Springsteen's 1982 Masterpiece, Nebraska". It sounds like a good read. 4 stars in Mojo.

Started on the Warren Zanes book right away, it's well written and well informed. I'm enjoying it.
There is another new book out, called "Mary climbs in" by Lorraine Mangione and Donna Luff. It is supposed to discuss Bruce's attitude towards women and how they were affected by his lyrics, and why they became fans in spite of all the "little girl" and "baby" references. It is rather tedious, after pages and pages they still haven't arrived at their topic proper but continue to tell us what they wanted to establish with their survey. I continue to fight my way through it.
Still bogged down in Griel Marcus most recent Dylan book - might have to put it to one side….
About a year ago, I guess, when the ticket prices were reported, I stopped listening to Springsteen. It wasn't a boycott or anything, although I sure as hell was boycotting the tour. It's not that I thought about listening to an album of his only to remind myself I was in a snit. I just...mostly stopped thinking about him. Over the last few days I read Warren Zanes' terrific Deliver Me From Nowhere, and now The River is in my car stereo, with Nebraska and BItUSA soon to follow. "Nebraska was a cave painting in the age of photography." "Years later, it would seem Nebraska was the pulling back of the bow, and Born In the USA was the arrow's release." Great writing, cooperation from everyone involved, one of the best books on Bruce I can think of.
The None But The Brave podcast had an interview with Warren Zanes a few episodes ago, well worth a listen...
My copy turned up yesterday and immediately went to the top of the bedside table pile.
Yeah, it's a new release, just out this Month. It's #1 in the rock music category on Amazon. If folks don't know Warren Zanes, he was in The Del Fuegos.
