Another pointless release was the recycle of The Essential collection. The original in 2003 with the bonus disc of further unreleased material was great (introducing me, as it did, to a personal Top 10 Boss tune in None But The Brave). But several years later they redid the collection, removing some songs and adding others. Perplexing pointless.
The only (I think) official Springsteen release I don't own. And I have tried. Mostly because I also love the cover. It's about the same as Collection: 1973 - 2012. I have it to be a completist and it has another cool cover (both Danny Clinch photos I think) but no need for me to ever play it.
This is the one I was referring to earlier as well. Since Steve has it, and I'm pretty sure it was released to tie in with a tour, I'm guessing it came out for the 2014 High Hopes jaunt that included South Africa.
But I'm sure the other one you posted first was released here too, as I've seen that yellow cover in stores. Both redundant, and both missing in my collection.
Yeah, this sort of music really needed a band in the studio to fully do it justice, not studio concocted tracks. Not even the E Street band necessarily, but an actual ensemble of some sort.
Which one is that, is that the Walmart only (or similar) release? There was also a release of something similar in Australia, tied in to one of the recent tours (2013, 2014, 2017).
Never bought either one, so can't claim them as a pointless release in my personal collection. But definitely seems redundant.
To be honest, in this streaming era, there are more and more physical releases that are probably pointless. For example, I bought the Springsteen On Broadway CD because I still like buying physical product for my favourite artists. But, while I've watched the show on Netflix 3 or 4 times in full (and tracked through to watch certain songs even more), and listened to the whole album via Spotify, the physical CD has never left it's casing. So that may be the most 'useless' release in my collection, albeit not from a lack of artistic merit.
Yeah, the Walmart exclusive. As far as I know, it's the only studio release that credits the band on the cover. Some of those regional releases you guys mentioned maybe do?

Only the Strong Survive (except I never actually bought it!)
