Jeff Beck, guitar god who influenced generations, dies at 78Jeff Beck, a guitar virtuoso who pushed the boundaries of blues, jazz and rock ‘n’ roll, influencing generations of shredders along the way and becoming known as the guitar player’s guitar player, has died. Beck died Tuesday after “suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis,” his representatives said in a statement released Wednesday. “Jeff was such a nice person and an outstanding iconic, genius guitar player — there will never be another Jeff Beck,” Tony Iommi, guitarist for Black Sabbath wrote on Twitter among the many tributes.
Jeff Beck is amongst these isn't he?
Regardless, one of the greatest videos ever. Sing it Mr President.
A friend of mine posted this on another message board (minor context, he's a bass player) -
Some sort of meningitis that took just a few days to off him. To think of the accidents and near misses he survived in that collection of hot rods he had.
I was offered tickets to a gig a couple of years back, and I was sorely tempted, especially as Beth Hart was his singer, with Tal Wilkenfeld and her Fender Jazz bass.
"Ach, I’m too busy; I’ll catch him some other time”.
As Danny Baker says, “Don’t seize the day, seize the minute. There were some poor saps who waved away the sweet trolley on the Titanic”.
Crap news.
We're on a bad run just now.
RIP
R.I.P.
TIL I learned just how scary bacterial meningitis is:
How does someone get bacterial meningitis? Bacteria that enter the bloodstream and travel to the brain and spinal cord cause bacterial meningitis. But bacterial meningitis also can occur when bacteria directly invade the meninges. This may be caused by an ear or sinus infection, a skull fracture, or — rarely — some surgeries. Bacterial meningitis is serious. Some people with the infection die and death can occur in as little as a few hours. However, most people recover from bacterial meningitis. Those who do recover can have permanent disabilities, such as brain damage, hearing loss, and learning disabilities.
