I know it was very highly regarded and my sister absolutely loved it, but it just didn't do anything for me. I got quite irritated and I don't know why.
We are watching Reacher on Prime - far fetched, but enjoyable. I have read a few of the books (Mr J has read them all) and the actor is definitely a good fit.
The Tender Bar is a book that was given to me by a former girlfriend. It was her favorite book and it's a damned good one. I'm watching the film tonight on Prime and so far, it's very good.
Has anyone watched The Many Saints of Newark, the Sopranos prequel? We watched it last night on Amazon Prime and were so disappointed. I would be interested to hear from other Sopranos fans whether they enjoyed it.
Apologies as I didn't stream it in the Netflix/Prime Video sense, but I picked a five film Scorsese box set the other week, and in it was The Last Waltz. Thought I'd watch it tonight and well damn if that wasn't brilliant!
@Jerseyfornia I can understand why people say it. The quality of the performances, the context of the night, the unique why Scorsese blends in the concert with Band interviews. I wouldn't say I've seen enough concert films to give a 'decisive' "it is" or "it isn't", but maybe the fact it made me want to rewatch The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts says more about my answer than anything else?
I'll also post in here what I wrote on Letterboxd (https://letterboxd.com/Kieran18/films/diary/):
A live performance immortalised over forty years ago, and a film where everyone involved is either in their late seventies/early eighties or has taken the mystery train to the other side, hearing Dylan sing "may you stay forever young" really drives it all home.
@whispered secret Haha. I like your reasoning for where your loyalty lies. I'm a Sharks man all the way, but not because of their frocks. They had better hair.
@whispered secret I decided to get an unlimited pass at a local cinema and have been going to see just about everything. Would probably never have watched this film otherwise and now I can't stop listening to "Tonight" from the balcony scene...
We finished the second season of The Morning Show the other night and are now trying to decide between the new season of Succession or picking Billions back up.
Meanwhile, of course, I binged the hell out of the Beatles Get Back documentary and was leaving feeling like it could have been even longer...
@SteveInJoburg I very much liked the first episode, certainly quite a bit more than the original Let It Be—which I was astonished to find as a young Beatlemaniac really was a slog, at least at times—despite being much longer. Get Back was far more pleasant, if still tense. But the second and third episodes were even more enjoyable and seemed to go much faster. (I guess the third really is the shortest, although still longer than Let It Be.)
@Scott Peterson I have never actually seen Let It Be, which might account for all of this being so new and mindblowing to me. I have watched the second episode now, just need to find time to watch the final one.
Also, corny as it is, hearing Paul singing (in the 'song' Commonwealth) 'South Africa' delighted me no end...
Enjoyed Brotherhood tonight on Prime. A true story about a group of boys at a leadership camp, caught out in a sudden summer storm that capsized their canoe. A good old fashioned drama.
This trailer does the movie no justice but watched Primal Fear last night for the first time in 20 years. Good cast, great movie, Ed Norton is phenomenal. Had forgotten just how good he was in this.
@Kay We had Prime for a week and when browsing there's an option "Free for me" (or words to that effect) which filters your browsing to stuff that is free on Prime.
That is exactly what I often want. When I was young and had not a care in the world (well, I had tons, but in retrospect...), I was all over grim and dark and depressing films. But now with the world collapsing around our ears, truly well-done escapist fare is often exactly what hits the spot, and it's almost always in such short supply.
Woot! This better be on Canadian Prime because with the pandemic and Netflix and Amazon, we're in a huge lull from stalling production sets, have not seen this one advertised yet.
Watched this last night. We'd never heard of Mr Rogers or the TV show but it didn't spoil our enjoyment of the film. Tom Hanks great as usual but so was Matthew Rhys and the rest of the cast. A real feel good movie and one I'd recommend if you feel a bit down.
Watched Nomadland yesterday evening. We thought it was really good, excellent performance from Frances McDormand and some absolutely stunning scenery. I read in one of the reviews that it is a 'love letter to America', and I can see that, albeit a love letter to the landscape and people who live on the margins, but have an indomitable spirit.
Watched 'A Promising Young Woman' yesterday evening. It was good with an excellent performance from Cary Mulligan. Rather strange ending - if anyone else watches it I would be interested in your thoughts.
@whispered secret If anything it's a solid companion piece to Citizen Kane.
The Oscars were a truly awful watch, and while I'm still surprised Boseman didn't win Best Actor it does leave me wanting to check out The Father now to see how good Hopkins actually was (You all know I'm so easily swayed) even though I don't particularly like watching films or shows focusing on Alzheimer's and Dementia.
Just watched this excellent gothic horror. It's atmospheric, well-written and not your run-of-the-mill werewolf story.
I can't recommend it highly enough.

One of my all-time favorite movies just hit Prime so even though I've watched it twenty or so times, I'm watching it now and loving it again.
We saw the new West Side Story yesterday evening, oh my, I loved it. Had tears streaming down my mask when Valentina sang 'Somewhere'.

We watched The Father yesterday evening. Excellent acting but I can't say either of us enjoyed it. It was expensive too - £9.95 from Rakuten.

Now the pressure is really on.........
To clarify, I got it free with one of those "seven days for 99p" deals with Prime.
Also, I'd got myself outside a few beers and the thick end of a bottle of a very passable Malbec when I did my amateur Barry Norman act.
We can buy it from Prime for £3.49 I believe - it better be worth my hard earned cash!!
It was on Prime we watched it, not sure if it's get-able elsewhere.
Jeez, no pressure now then!!
Citizen Kane it ain't, but if you want an undemanding watch, a few laughs with a glass of something in your hand......fill your boots.
This is a fucking awesome, hilarious, feel good movie. Watch it......and I hardly ever say that.

One scene had me thinking of a young JF.
