Right, someone did this back on the other place once. 5 completely random songs from my playlist with everything Bruce has released on Spotify.
1. This land is your land -one of Bruce’s best covers. The only negative thing about this is that it doesn’t contain all the verses. One of my favourite Bruce moments is when the band kicks in.
2. Born to Run (Live in NYC) - It’s not my favourite version but it’s always nice to hear the band, not long after they got back together, everyone still alive, playing this jewel of a song.
3. Blood Brothers (live in NYC 2000) - this is always so emotional. I rarely listen to it because I need to be in a very specific state of mind to be able to take it all in.
4. Adam raised a Cain (live 75-85) - This is so incredibly badass and so beautifully written. I once wrote a short story in English for school that I called “You inherit the sins, You inherit the flames”, that line fascinates me and has helped me with a lot of personal stuff. Oh, that story was photocopied and read in every English class in that school that year. :)
5. Take ‘em as they come - God, I love this! I love how it starts as if the band had been itching to get is started, I love the sound of the instruments and the vocals. I absolutely love how the song breaks down and keeps going with nothing but drums and then kicks in again with that great riff!
Just heard Thunder Road from live 1975-85 with a headset for the first time in a really long time. What a goddamn song this is.
1) Surprise, Surprise - Working On A Dream
2) Thunder Road - 1984/08/06 East Rutherford, NJ
3) The River - 1985/09/30 Los Angeles, CA
4) The Promised Land - 1996/11/24 Asbury Park, NJ
5) Factory - 2009/12/13 Asbury Park, NJ
1. Candy's Room - 12/16/78 Winterland - Hot, Hot, Hot
2. Seeds - 6/24/93 New Jersey - Best Version Ever!!!!
3. Out in the Streets - The River - Love it!!
4. Dream Baby Dream - High Hopes - You really need the video with this tune or see it live!
5. She's The One - Born To Run- Rock me!!
Book Of Dreams
The Brokenhearted
Local Hero
Reno 😁
Human Touch ❤️
Reno and Human Touch make a good pair.
Bruce Springsteen
Gotta Get That Feeling – Live At the Carousel EP
Used Cars – Nebraska
The Big Payback – Essential CD 3
The Line – 1996/11/24 Asbury Park, NJ
I’ll See You In My Dreams – Letter To You
Missing - Had Bruce released the album this was supposed to have been on, and I’m sure it would have been one of my favourites.
Loose Change - I have already expressed my love for disc 4 of Tracks. I just love this stuff.
Nebraska (Live 75-85) - I heard this before I heard the original, saw the movie or even heard about Starkweather. I was maybe 10. It was quite a shock.
High Hopes (Live from town) - a song I don’t very much care for and an official release that sounds like an audience recording.
Downbound Train - It’s far from my favourite album, but at least it’s the best song on it!
I wanna be with you (Tracks disc 2);
Down in the hole (studio);
Drive Fast;
My Father's House (Christic 16/11/ 90);
Wrecking Ball (studio);
This is a phone shuffle rather than Spotify.
Thank You for letting me play.
Free Nelson Mandela - Cape Town 1/28/14 Perfect song to start a set there, and very powerful
Jungleland - St. Louis 2008 - Perfect just perfect
Soul Driver - Human Touch - probably should listen to this album more often
Badlands - Christ Church 2/21/17 - Pretty basic Badlands
This Life - WOAD - I love this song, and really don't know why.
My Radom 5 whilst cooking this afternoon
Factory - album version
Spare Parts - album version
Candy's Room - album version
Dancing in the Dark - Cape Town 28.1.14
Promised Land - album version
I enjoyed this, so decided to carry on with other artists - posted on the Infidelities thread.
I have a Springsteen studio anthology playlist on the current USB in the car. Its sorted by year, starting with Baby I from 1966 and ending with (of course) Ghosts.
Hit shuffle, these are the first 5 songs I heard:
One Step Up
Human Touch
Devil's Arcade
I Will Stand By You
4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)
Next up were:
Roulette
Chain Lightning
Soul Driver
Frankie
I'm On Fire
This hard land (Tracks); Spirit (studio).......again; I'm on fire (studio); Ties that bind (studio); Fire (The Promise);
Today's basic spotify five - We take care of our own, Lonesome Day, Hungry Heart, Spirit in the night, High Hopes.
Adam Raised a Cain - MSG 88...he's breaking those fucking chains.
Darkness - Nassau '80. The Best Version Ever.
Born in the USA - LA 85. Amazing.
Prove It All Night - Roxy 78. Intense and less bloated then future versions, but it hits the spot.
The Promise - KC 78. Slow and brooding.
Streets of Fire (album) - their production is wildly different but there’s a certain sense of intimacy both on Darkness and BTR that I really love. I spent weeks of my youth trying to play these solos as I was learning to play the guitar. And Danny...
Leavin Train - skip! I don’t think I’ve ever heard this song all the way through.
Working on the highway (album) - nice and fun. But Child Bride is miles better.
All that heaven will allow (live in Trenton 2005) - this tour is criminally overlooked. I need an official release with all the songs that were played on that tour!
Letter to you - still does nothing for me...
Candy's Room - album version
Stones - album version
Incident - album version
Shackled and Drawn - Cape Town, 29.1.14
Long Walk Home - album version
Happy with that, would have chosen something else from Cape Town, but as you said @MagicRatAFC , not a bad start to a Friday.
OK, are we talking our own playlists? I went on Spotify (I just have the basic) and did a shuffle.
1. Studio Backstreets; 2. Studio My Hometown; 3. Studio Thunder Road; 4. Studio Hungry Heart; 5. My Letter to You.
Worse ways to kick off a Friday.
These are mine. Two Promised Lands have to mean something.
The Promised Land, Trenton 2005
Racing, Roxy 1978
Born to run, San Siro 2016, July 5tth
The Promised Land, No Nukes
Dancing in the dark, 5.8. 84
I have to admit that I don't always recognize the specific version of certain songs straight away. 🤯
And if any of you needs a challenge, put all your Born To Runs on random, and let me know how many you scored.
Was hoping for this type of thread when I clicked on the title.
Here's what I got by shuffling my Apple Music:
"All The Way Home" - 2005/11/22 Trenton, NJ: Not one I've listened to often, it got massively overshadowed by "Song For Orphans", "Leah" and "Zero and Blind Terry", but this revisit was enjoyable;
"Racing In The Street" - 1980/11/05 Tempe, AZ - ASU Activity Center: What can I say, really? So incredibly grateful to have as many versions of my favourite song from this tour there to listen to at any time. And for the copy I've got to end with Roy and Danny's sample of "Once Upon a Time in the West" to lead into "The River" just makes for pure bliss;
"Hungry Heart" - 1980/12/31 Uniondale, NY: To echo Bruce's words towards the start, SOUNDS GOOD!;
"Light Of Day" - 1999/09/30 Chicago, IL: Interpolations of "Land of 1000 Dances" and "Boom Boom'" make for a strong version of the song;
"Local Hero" - 1992/07/25 East Rutherford, NJ: A shame it wasn't Leeds 2013, because I'm still struggling to get away with this rendition.
I did a few more skips after "Hero" to see how long it would take for a non-Springsteen song on my library to play. 14 skips later... Blitzkrieg Bop!
